People who are familiar with the earlier work of Swan Christy know about their symphonic and original approach to metal. On their latest album "Black Is The White Color", they’ve decided to take the basic approach; there is no redundancy whatsoever on this silver disc. Even the CD and booklet are sober and somewhat clinical.
When it comes to the music it is basically the same story. The production sounds a bit hollow and the songs are a combination of power rock and electro pop. No choirs, female vocals or orchestral sounds. What’s left is a rock band with keyboards and samples. The voice reminds me of the more mature James Hetfield now and then - you know; the post Black Album era ;-). Nevertheless, some of the songs are quite catchy; especially the refrains of songs like "I Am In Hate With An Alien" stay in your head. | |
Swan Christy make it clear that they are not novices when it comes to their instrumental capabilities. Not that there are any real caddish solos on this record. Instead, it’s the apparent simplicity of the well thought-out harmonies and the smoothness of playing that show their skills.
It seems to me this record takes us back to the roots of Swan Christy. The uptempo songs like "Because A Motherfucker Said So" and "Cast In Tears" and especially the guitar riffs of "Enough Of White" certainly take me back to the eighties. And I wouldn’t be surprised if you hear "Love It Or Hate Me" or "Useless Chair Occupator" on a late night radioshow. (Wilfred) |
