Somebody slap me! This is no record, this is a fucking serial killer! Deformity is definitely on the warpath with their third release (their first on Displeased), which is filled with about the most extreme death metal I’ve ever heard. If you thought that their first release was heavy (which I accidentally did) you’ll be shaking in your boots when you heard this one: brutal, dark and super-aggressive from the first to the last song. There’s some great musicianship and songwriting here, lots of changes and turns in the songs plus a crazy-fast drummer to give the awesome riffs just the power they need to destroy everything they encounter. The greatest difference between this release and the previous one is the change of singers: original vocalist Lookmulle had to leave the band because of throat problems (Now there’s some real dedication: gave up his own health in favor of the band! Bravo!) , so the bass-player replaces him on ‘Superior’.

Too bad, because I liked the original screaming better than the deep grunts offered here, because those are sadly common in death metal. He’s not doing a bad job, it just doesn’t help in giving the band a distinctive sound. The lyrics are about stuff like fallen angels, murder and pagan gods, and even though they don’t scare the pants off of me, they do contribute to the dark atmosphere present in the music. I never thought I would be attracted to this type of music, but I am! Killer album that should be a ‘must buy’ for sick minds who are into early Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel. This is the soundtrack to an axe-murder!
