What we’ve got here are two gals and one guy from Sacramento who rock it so much like the Ramones I expect them to break into some ‘Hey ho - let’s go’ during half of their fucking songs. This is the seventh full-length Ghoulies-album already, so it’s still damn well possible to launch a musical career with three-chord songs. The fourteen pieces of pop punk (twelve of which are new: ‘Chupacabras’ is a cover from the Super Furry Animals and ‘Ghoulies Are Go!’ is re-recorded for this album) the band offers here are all catchy as hell. In fact, you’ll be probably singing along the second time you hear them if you’re into this sort of stuff. Singer Kepi has a typical nasal voice (not unlike a certain Joey Ramone, but it would be a bit cheap to compare the Ghoulies to just this legendary band) but he has no problems with giving the songs a fresh, feel-good touch.

The band doesn’t like shifting gears in the songs, so once they’ve started a song at a certain speed they’ll finish it like that, but since the longest song lasts a stunning 3:08 (being a bit cynical here kids!) there’s no way you’ll get bored. If I dig up some old record reviews to compare, it looks like the Ghoulies got rid of their ‘vampire lesbians’-image and even manage to come up with the best line I’ve heard in a song for months: ‘Be passionate or don’t do it at all.’ I couldn’t agree more. G-H-O-U-L-I-E-E-E!!!
