‘The City Guard’ starts promising, electronic dance music with the right mood. The dark electro that follows is good, but never good enough to really make an impact. It becomes clear that Guy van Mieghem and Gin Devo sound at their best during instrumentals (like ‘The Alternative Digital Orchestra Ensemble’ that definitely would fit on an Apollo Four Forty album). Funny is that ‘Timebomb’ reminds of Prong. It’s not something you would expect if you listen to the rest of this album.

These remarks however give the total image of this CD. Well written and performed songs, but it lacks identity. Most of the songs sound pretty safe. Only exception is maybe the explosion during ‘Gaia’, but even that song doesn’t put the band above average. If you can’t get enough of music like this than VOMITO NEGRO is a good band. If you’re into more innovating stuff then move on to something else.
