This album was released in Japan some years ago by Roadrunner. Now it has finally found its way to the European market. Silent Scream, released by Lion Music is the second CD that hits the shops this year, after Sign Of The Time. Kelly Simonz is a melodic metal man and takes full control over his music by playing all the instruments and producing the album all by himself. He’s very well educated at G.I.T. in the US and a very talented guitar player, strongly influenced by Yngwie Malmsteen. The complex compositions on this album are carried by the neo-classical keyboard parts as in the opening track ‘Silent Scream’ (some Rhapsody here). | |
In comparison to Sign Of The Time, the new album is much more song oriented. This is most obvious is tracks like ‘Girl…I Give My Life For You’ and ‘Angel Eyes’. These songs reminded me of the Motown group Shai (‘If I Ever Fall In Love’). These would have done fine as bonus tracks, but here the contrast to the other tracks is major.
I’m not very fond of the vocals on this CD, the music is just too dominating. The vocal harmonies seem out of place with the metallesque music in ‘Fly Away’ and ‘Paradise Lost’, but works great in the best track ‘Forever’. (Geert) |
