Although “Rage To Revenge” was released a few months ago, we did not receive a copy until now. I even saw a promotional gig for this release some time ago. But I certainly do not want to withhold from you the following information. As you might know Occult is one of Holland’s surviving old school black thrash bands that released their classic debut “Prepare To Meet Thy Doom” back in 1992. And now in 2002, after having done tons of gigs with bands like Immortal, Marduk, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Ancient Rites and Desaster, the time came to release their fourth outburst of anger. Occult’s sound doesn’t differ too much from their earlier days. It still is a combination of old school thrash and raw black metal. And they certainly proved that this can work out alright.

With thrash classics as “Mind Domination” or “Killing for Recreation” they can certainly cope up with the better acts in this genre, just like in the past. The combination of the scream parts from vocalist Maurice on the more black oriented parts and the grunts of Rachel are very enjoyable. Only the sad part of that story is the fact that Rachel chose to go on with Sinister after serving Occult for over 7 years now. The production is as it should be. Fat. And the tremolo sweeping guitar solos make this release complete. All in all, this is a fine old school black thrash release which can be bought with closed eyes, although I guess the true fans already have this one in their CD racks.
