Everybody who likes a distorted guitar, a lot of percussion, no vocals and has a passion for jazz and fusion in a modern outfit know Greg Howe. Hyperacuity already is the seventh solo release of this artist who played as a replacement on parts of Michael Jackson’s History tour and who tours with Enrique Iglesias at the moment. The sound as I told you before is based on jazz and fusion oriented guitar riffs and riddles, like Joey Tafola for instance. Typical Los Angeles beach soap or Miami Vice soundtrack music. Only Greg uses a more experimental approach, like in “Receptionist” for instance, with strange guitar lines, effects and percussion. | |
He also shows he can handle the acoustic guitar like an expert. Without a doubt Greg has a lot of capabilities, but he cannot keep this entire release interesting without the vocals. He should have asked his brother, who featured on earlier releases. No, Greg is a virtuoso, only he is not the only one, and there certainly are better releases in this genre. If you like his fourth release “Introspection” this might be something for you. (Teun) |
