A nice gesture of the Castle Party organisation is that they released an album with all the bands that should play on this year’s Castle Party festival in Bolkow. Pitifully enough the CD opens with the one and only band (Project Pitchfork) that had to cancel their gig on this cosy and beautifully located festival. Instead of them the Mexican band Hocico played on the festival, but they aren’t on this release. The album is however also special, because there’s a lot of information about every band (including websites and all). If you consider the tracks on this CD you will notice that there was a lot of variety during the Castle Party.
Supposedly known bands like Das Ich (‘Engel’), Clan Of Xymox (‘Something Wrong’), New Model Army (‘Flying Through The Smoke’) and the earlier mentioned Project Pitchfork (‘Timekiller’) are mixed with more unknown bands. Songs from acts like Closterkeller (‘Cisza W Moim Domu’) and Moonlight (‘Col’ – which is actually sung in English) show that we have missed (so far) a lot in gothic rock that’s very popular in Poland.
The Germans are present with a dark deeply melancholic version of electro from Inscape (‘Mein Ist Die Leidenschaft’), Accessory (‘Braindead’), that actually sounds better on CD than live, and the triphop of Somnambul (‘Waiting’), that sounds like Portishead meets Hooverphonic. | |
Other Polish acts that were more into the ambient kind of thing are Fading Colours (with a more uptempo beat during ‘Teutonic Girl’), God’s Bow (‘Beyond Suns’) and the rockier Polish/English(?) Dance On Glass (‘Flying’).
Than there’s the brutal metal of Christ Agony (‘Demon’s Lover’) from Poland, the ‘Teutonic’ electro/industrial of Dance Or Die (‘Psychoburbia’) from Germany, the alternative rock from the Polish Variete (‘Cyganska Muzyka’) and the heavy electro psychedelic rock of Venus Fly Trap (‘Europa’) from the U.K.
In the end you can speak of a good compilation. If you’re into new and other things, then you can probably look at the site of the record label: www.metalopolis.pl or check the festival site
www.castleparty.com and maybe you can order this CD there… (Beautevil) |
