Imagine walking through meadows in Northern Europe and living in other times. You hear the waves of the sea breaking down on the coast (‘The Crossing’). You seek the goddess of Death… and understand life (‘Hel – Goddess Of The Underworld’). ‘Frigga’s Web’ declares the position of Frigga – patroness of women and children. Frigga was called upon for an easy birth and also for an easy death…
Well, you can read the meaning of the songs in the booklet as well. It’s a meaningful journey in older times. The combination of medieval and Celtic influences generates a special atmosphere. The calm, pleasant voice of Andrea Nebel Haugen creates the perfect feeling on top of the different instruments. Kristian Nordeide (the multi-instrumentalist of the band Fabelsvansene) plays all the bagpipes, bombarde, colascione, flutes, harp, lute, lyre, naglharpa and vihuela. | |
She actually plays such old instruments that my computer doesn’t even understand the meaning of the words. Other guest musician is Goran Hallmarker who plays the hurdy gurdy.
The result is beautiful folk music, which makes you choose whether you just want to float away into another dimension or if you want to go deeper inside the world of Andrea. That’s for you to discover, because this review is not giving you the answers. How could we? The music of this CD is of such grandeur and beauty that it’s just something you have to experience yourself… (Beautevil) |
