After a strange intro, in which a man tells something about MOONLIGHT in Polish, we get an almost perfect live representation of one of the best bands during the Castle Party this year. Perfect live representation doesn’t mean that this CD is overproduced or that there are no little mistakes to be heard. No, perfect is the fact that MOONLIGHT has apparently decided to get it directly onto tape. So you can hear some little failures, but that makes it just more ‘live’, doesn’t it?
What’s left is a sincere sounding CD with good progressive Gothic rock music. Sometimes the band sounds bombastic (like in ‘Flos’), but that’s an element they’re absolutely able to cope with. This is not the typical Gothic metal or rock with a female opera voice. Maja sounds definitely more rock. | |
She sounds very powerful. The music is more progressive than we’re used from (the typical) Gothic bands, but the emotion is still dripping from the music.
Although most of the Gothic metal/rock albums seem to be about fairytales and some hopeful thoughts this MOONLIGHT actually sounds more like it’s taken from the real world. Sounds like, because Maja is singing in Polish, so it’s hard to understand. Strangely enough the fact that she is singing in Polish gives this CD that extra mysterious touch. It all sounds so sincere…
This record is an absolute recommendation for people who like progressive rock (think Queensryche, Dream Theater) or Gothic metal/rock (like Lacuna Coil, Anathema).
