SubArachnoid Space is the 1995 San Francisco space-rock band of guitarists Melynda Jackson and Mason Jones, currently extended by bassplayer Andey Stephens and drummer Chris van Huffel. The first couple of releases from SubArachnoid Space have become quite well-known in the experimental scene as their psychedelic noise-drone has gotten them on the same stage as bands like Merzbow and Masonna. Most of their albums are recorded live, and These Things Take Time is no exception to this: recorded on KFJC 89.7FM on December 11th 1999, this album is different in their predecessors as the sound is totally focused on rock/experimental, reaching the acid-laden freaksound that bands as Pink Floyd, Hawkwind and Rush also created in the `70s. | |
In 45 minutes, These Things Take Time takes you on a trip in a landscape of whirring and screeching guitars, the bass humming in the background and the drums providing a perfect steady rhythm throughout the album. In the entirety of this albums, vocals are not missed. The ever-changing textures of SubArachnoid Space makes this album easy to sit through, and even makes you longing for more. There`s no such thing as `best song` on this album, as the individual songs are subordinate to the album itself, and the album itself is a long, hard, hallucinogen-induced high. Please, get these people over to Europe! (Xander) |
