Pharaoh of Gods was originally released 1999 under Canadian label Hypnotic Records and now Unique Leader has released it for worldwide distribution. Although the album is 3 years old, it doesn’t sound aged. The band is clearly influenced by Morbid Angel but sounds less chaotic and extreme. At the same time they’ve created a sound of their own. The pace is most of the times mid tempo, with the occasional outburst of speed. Of course, as they are influenced by Egyptian history and mythology they’ve poured in the occasional eastern melody giving Pharaoh of Gods a real middle eastern feeling.

According to Unique Leader the album has been released due to a big demand in the U.S. for this record. In my opinion this shows that U.S. metalheads aren’t as narrow-minded as the rest of their countrymen in condemning all Middle Eastern culture. Lyric-wise the band doesn’t dig as deep as Nile and by that I mean they write about Egypt instead of translating ancient Egyptian scrolls and texts for lyrics. I’m anxious to hear how they have evolved in the 3 years following this release and I’m hoping a follow up to Pharaoh of Gods will be recorded soon.
