Mykorrhiza is one of those bands, or a project (considering Henrik Brynolsson plays the guitar and bass) that’s so difficult to review. Is this self-titled MCD of this threesome descending from Sweden meant to be for real or just for fun? I’m still not convinced about the purpose of this album.
Mykorrhiza plays a type of old school black/thrash metal combined with some heavy metal parts as well, including the varied vocals and a decent complex song structure. Songs like “Going Away”, “Another Dimension” and “Into War” are not the most convincing songs ever heard, and don’t own the class we’re used to by their Swedish colleagues who parade in the same music scene, but they have some pretty nice ideas that need a lot of work in order to finish them in the correct way. | |
The other concern I have about this MCD is, in my opinion, the terrible sound, especially the drum-sound. On the album cover is mentioned that this album was recorded at Studio Blackshine…… Next time I suggest Mykorrhiza should take more time, and hire a producer/engineer without a serious hearing problem!
