Beyond The Valley Of The Murderdolls is not the type of debut you’d expect from a band with members of Slipknot and Static X in it. It’s a refreshing record in comparison to most of the releases nowadays.
Seven years ago there was a band called The Rejects, the brainchild of Joey Jordison, also known as the drummer of Slipknot. Since then the lineup changed a lot until he met guitarist Tripp Eisen (Dope, Static X) and singer Wednesday 13. At this point the bandname was changed into Murderdolls, because the lineup had changed so much.
When you put on this record you’ll hear an intro of Mozart, but then you’ll be overwhelmed by a combination of punk, metal and glamour music like Misfits, Alice Cooper and Twisted Sister. | |
They even got the same horror images (who said image wasn’t important?). After the intro of the first song “Slit My Wrist” they give full throttle. The only break is another subtle piece of Mozart. The lyrics are mainly inspired by boredom and horror movies with a funny twist. “Love At First Fright” for example is a love song about the girl from The Exorcist. It all sounds very promising, but appearances are deceiving: sadly enough both lyrics and music lack the diversity needed to hold your attention from the beginning till the end. (Dennis) |
