This MCD is the first release for Fetch, a band from the southern part of Holland. Only five songs here, which somewhat sound like someone threw Snapcase, Converge and Will Haven in a blender and pressed ‘mix gently’. Mostly mid-tempo newschool hardcore, with a bit of noise- and metal-influences. Nothing you haven’t heard before, but the band never sounds like a complete rip-off.
The songwriting is done pretty well, with plenty of variation in the songs. The singer also uses a lot of variation in his voice, and that’s where the trouble starts. In the harder, more metallic parts he shrieks like a banshee, which is fine with me, but in the more melodic parts he sings with a clean voice. | |
Usually, this turns out well, but this guy sings nearly out of tune half of the time and sounds so whiny that he just pisses me off in a big way. Which is unfortunate, because the rest of the music is definitely worth a listen.
The lyrics are a bit incoherent and I usually don’t know what they are about, but they fit in with the music, as does the packaging. Not bad for a first release, but this wouldn’t convince me to put out their stuff if I had my own record label. (Jasper) |
