Heavy and intelligent. Two words that come to mind when listening to Meshuggah’s latest effort “Nothing”. These Swedes have been around since 1991 and have steadily built a strong reputation and a loyal fan-following, which they are likely to consolidate with this new album. The almost mathematical yet strong structures of the material make this a treat for fans of intelligent metal; imagine Neurosis mixed with Dillinger Escape Plan! It’s a surprise that Meshuggah played the Ozzfest in the US, since most of the bands on the bill differ radically from this band. | |
It’s not such a big surprise though to see them on tour with Tool. Both bands, although have a rather different sound, seem to have the same approach towards music. I do wonder if Meshuggah will ever reach the same amount of success, since their sound isn’t so incredibly polished. You have to put some effort into this to thoroughly enjoy it. But once you have scratched the surface, it just becomes better and better. (Miguel) |
