The Polish MOONLIGHT released with Yaishi an album sung in English. It makes it hard to understand why this band hasn`t reached a bigger crowd outside of Poland. Although the English lyrics could have been better (it looks like the band has translated the lyrics directly from Polish into English), the pronunciation of Maja Konarska is good enough to compete with other English-singing bands. Yaishi contains some songs we heard in Polish on the brilliant Koncert W Trojce album. It`s only a pity that the emotion of that album isn`t captured on this one. Maybe the production is too good this time or maybe the English language creates an emotional gap for Maja.
The band regularly reminds of The Gathering. They are also a band with some progressive rock influences with a beautiful voice on top. They also sound sometimes too well produced and that creates a feeling of distance. Still, if we compare it to a lot of other bands in the scene, MOONLIGHT prove that they are a band with talented musicians. | |
The songwriting is superb and the combination between the different instruments works wonderfully well. Melancholic songs like `Ergo Sum`, `Yaishi` and single `Meren-Re (Rapsod)` (which is included as a video clip as well) makes you float away into another world. Heavier songs like `At The End Of Our Days`, `A story To Forget`, `Jesugej Von Batuur` and `Scent` show the progressive rock class that MOONLIGHT has to offer. Strange twists in the music and every detail of the different musicians seems to fit perfectly in the song. Yaishi contains some impressive musicianship for people who are into progressive metal and rock.
Absolute highlights are the thrilling trilogy `(Infinity)`, `Nothing` and `Gebbeth`. These songs got everything (including a piano and no break between the songs) that makes this MOONLIGHT such a special band. Respect!!! (Beautevil) |
