Clearly influenced by Portishead, Goldfrapp and Massive Attack, but definitely with a sound of their own. The beautiful voice of Ulricke Mücke resembles Geike Arnaert (from Hooverphonic) and the music strangely enough sounds more organic than the aforementioned bands. It’s strange, because SOMNAMBUL only exists of two people (next to Ulricke we’ve got Kai Mekelburg).

From ‘Hidden Child’ until ‘Herbstmix’ we’re floating in a trip-hop dreamworld. This is actually another powerful point of SOMNAMBUL, because a lot of trip-hop bands often forget to release a complete strong album. Mostly they fall in the trap of writing a ‘single’ or they can’t keep the atmosphere going throughout the entire album.

It’s absolutely not done to mention any highlights of this debut album of SOMNAMBUL, because it would mean that we have to name every song.

It’s just 48 minutes of pure pleasure. If you listen carefully you will hear the attention for small details in the music. The production of Somnambulis absolutely brilliant and this all explains why Stars In The Dark/ EFA will release this album in October 2002. They only have to copy this CD and provide it to an eagerly waiting market…
