Deep Inside Myself is a continuation of the bands Gone Sadness and Hereafter And Now. The music on At A Late Hour is a mix of gothic metal and dark rock, which reminds of Paradise Lost. This might not sound very promising but fear not, for Deep Inside Myself certainly isn’t a clone band and at times they actually manage to sound refreshing and original without sounding experimental at all. The music is very sincere and varied. Melodic rock parts and aggressive metal parts interchange just like Marco Bauer’s vocals change from clean to grunts in the blink of an eye, creating a dark and intense atmosphere.

The music on this album is mainly melody driven with excellent background keyboards and even though the band uses a drum computer the sound is nevertheless far from clinical.

In fact it is very difficult to hear that this band uses a drum computer at all. Deep Inside Myself is a band that actually manages to sound original. And it is therefore no wonder that At A Late Hour contains thirteen refreshing songs that, although influenced by bands like Paradise Lost and HIM, retain their own identity. Best songs on the album are the aggressive “A Part Of Me”, the melodic “Helpless Victim”, the powerful “Misjudgement” and the gothic ballad “Early Autumn”.

My only problem with this album is that it sounds slightly too happy but that seems to be the problem with so many of the current wave of dark rock and dark metal bands. At A Late Hour is nevertheless a very good album that I can highly recommend to every fan of this genre.
