The infamous riff machine from Buffalo, NY is out on the prowl with a new staccato rage that goes straight to the core of our souls. Armed with sharp guitar hooks and a driving dissonant sound. Snapcase is the name; End Transmission is the game. End Transmission is Snapcase’s fourth full-length album. It’s also one step closer to their evolution as a band, as individual artists and to the perfection in sound they seem to be striving for.

The album opener called ‘Coagulate’ is perfectly in the vein of their last album ‘Design for Automotion’. A nice reminder of the past. Snapcase however is looking forward. The second song called ‘Cadence’ is the perfect bridge to the rest of the album. It is tranquil yet feels threatening like the eye of a storm.

End Transmission sounds so much deeper and richer than anything they have released so far. The album is very mature without losing the edge and grind they are known for; intelligent guitar riffs and tight rhythm work. Hardcore purists will frown. However, Snapcase is pure, not pure hardcore but pure in emotions and music. Songs like ‘The Beat’ (straight in your face) and ‘Believe Revolt’ give you a picture perfect example of the variety on the album.

Lyrically Snapcase, as always, ensure a meaningful message. Anything from personal growth to globalisation problems are dealt with, all part of a conceptual approach. In this case we’re dealing with a lyrical conceptual version of a futuristic society. Check out the booklet. There are even lyrics of songs printed in the booklet that are not on the album but support the value of the concept.

Vocalist Daryl Taberski’s recognisable voice is still present yet seems a little more diverse. Call me crazy but from time to time he reminded me a little of Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction). The overall sound is more layered than before, adding to the richness of the sound. Most songs gained structure and therefore more depth turning End Transmission into a must for Snapcase fans and fans of loud and challenging music in general.

They are on tour all over the world starting in the US. They should reach Europe in November of this year, so check out their website for more information. You can of course also check out the agenda on Rockezine.
