Corruption states to be the first Polish stoner rock band. The band got started in 1991, and “Pussyworld’ is their third CD. I must admit never having heard of the band, although they have toured with bands like Vader, Armageddon, Death, and Samael. The quality of this CD is surprisingly good. Catchy songs, well skilled and performing musicians, and a production that sounds a bit messy at times, but is always very massive. Some songs that really deserve the definition ‘stoner rock’, reminding of Kyuss and Spiritual Beggars, but listening to the CD I also got memories of early Metallica and related metal bands. Especially the voice of Rufus, and the pretty metal orientated riffs of guitarists Thrashu and Electric remind of metal influences. This combination is something that can work very well, as this CD proves.

The CD as a whole is pretty varied, with a choice of arrangements, from dragging, to mid- and up-tempo (speedy) songs, and a psychedelic intro in “Pussy Guest”. One of the, according to the biography, “Godfathers of Stoner Rock”, Black Sabbath, is honored with a cover version of “Paranoid”, played in a rhythm that makes you want to go horseback riding. Another tribute is to Deep Purple with a very heavy version of their “Perfect Strangers”. Corruption is forgiven their pretty tasteless CD cover and the snare drum that sometimes sounds as a rusty oil drum; it’s ready for the big audience. This kind of music isn’t only created in Scandinavia; Poland can put a band on the world chart also, and they are called: Corruption.
