Washington DC hardcore band Fury had a short and furious career. Short because of the length of time and the amount of released material, furious because of the chaotic punk embedded hardcore they made back in 1989. Influenced by bands like Discharge, Void and Minor Threat, Fury turned out to be a new branch on the East coast hardcore tree. Chris Thomson’s ranting vocals and melodies gave Fury a recognisable feature. They recorded only six songs in their short existence, which have now been released on cd. Their sound and feel brings me back to the small punk and hardcore stages in the late eighties, void of having an image and circumstantial crap. Just furious music, sweat and a lot of fun.

It’s bands like Fury that could tear down any venue they played at. No one will ever know whether Fury could have made it to the big league but if you listen closely, you know they stood a chance. Songs like ‘Space Love’ and ‘Shotgun’ (reminds me of C.O.C. back in the days of ‘Technocracy’) are unpolished diamonds that reveal the true talent of this band. This not a useless release, even though it only lasts twelve minutes. The quality of the songs still stands and above all, it’s a nice opportunity for new young hardcore fans to enjoy a little history.
