It’s difficult to review an album like this. Why? Well, when you see this band live they make a much better impression than the first impression on this record. On this record you first get the idea that GOD’S BOW definitely has potential, but there’s something wrong. The production seems to fail this band. The music is situated in the background and the voice of Agnieszka Kornet is too much on the foreground. Occasionally she even sounds a bit out of tune. She is sometimes just reaching too high (listen to songs like the ironically titled “Clear” and “Beyond The Suns”).
Musically the band sounds more than okay. The keyboards by Krzysztof Pieczarka create an atmosphere we know from acts like Delerium or Dead Can Dance. He has the ability to put some different layers in his music and that keeps your attention throughout the whole record. | |
In slowly built up songs like the beautiful “Tired” GOD’S BOW proves to be something special. In this song the beauty of the voice of Agnieszka shows itself. She’s got a typical voice when she keeps it all under control. It’s dark, melancholic and female at the same time.
Next song “Interstellar Absolution” is the highlight of this album. It’s an almost instrumental ambient song that gives you peace of mind. After this, the band goes forth in a better shape than the aforementioned songs. Their ambient dark melodic music stays moody and melancholic and the voice of Agnieszka works wonderfully well now. At those moments it’s time to go into a world of wonders and hope that GOD’S BOW will keep the quality going on for the next record… (Beautevil) |
