After the release of three demo’s (Resurrection, Fallen and Reborn), the Polish Mess Age have finally got a record deal and consequently released their debut album, entitled Self Convicted. The album opens with the super aggressive ”Among The Empty Walls”, and that song makes clear right away that Mess Age are not for the faint of heart. Aggressive death thrash metal, with very rough vocals, that blows up right in your face.
Self Convicted is a very pleasant surprise indeed in these times. Although the thrash metal scene has been in decline for years, lately a select group of bands, like The Haunted and Darkane, have infused it with some new blood. One can safely add Mess Age to that group of diehards, who refuse to give in and strife to keep thrash metal alive. | |
Mess Age are influenced by bands like At The Gates, The Haunted, Darkane and the Gothenburg scene in general but American influences are certainly also present. The band have nevertheless managed to retain their own sound and created an album that is powerful and refreshing with songs that burst with lead breaks and aggression. Songs like “Infected By Deflections”, “C.O.L.D.” and “Devoured With Famished Eyes” feature excellent guitar riffs that shine `cause of the excellent and extremely heavy production of the album.
With Self Convicted Mess Age prove that they are ready for a bigger audience and any self-respecting thrash metal fan should check this band out because if you won’t, you might be missing out on the new sensation in the thrash metal scene!
