Mistaking Graveworm for a death/grind band for its name alone, I was surprised to find out that `gothic black` would be a better term to describe this six-piece from Germany. Actually, and this is not meant as a belitteling term, Graveworm could best be seen as the little brother of Cradle Of Filth. It has the same song structuring (mixing gothic metal with black influences, interwoven with excellent keyboarding), and most important, vocalist Stefan could be Dani`s brother. Don`t be fooled, however, this band has an enormous potential. Scource Of Malice is a lot of things, but a rip-off it is definitely not. Graveworm puts their effort in making straightforward, more direct songs than Cradle Of Filth.

While it is intriguing to see CoF putting different melodies and rhythms in their song, Graveworm doesn`t expand too much upon this and this fact makes the songs more brutal and aggressive. Then, the addition of violins to the band (perhaps an idea taken from Haggard) is another big plus. If I had to name one mistake on this album, it would be the "Fear Of The Dark"-cover. Graveworm doesn`t need an Iron Maiden-song to make the album sell, their own songs have enough quality to speak for themselves. Graveworm would be the ideal choice for people who think of CoF as `too poppy` or `too commercial`. Give them a try...
