Thoria started their career with the release of the 6-track Worry Dolls album, in May 2001. Now, after releasing “Keep ‘Em In The Attic” as a limited edition single, and “I Got Satan”, the threesome thought themselves popular enough to compose a whole album full of their catchy, yet typical songs.
The first four songs on Love Sick are similat to those on the previous two singles; the opener “I Got Satan” is quite okay, but it’s “What A Day” and “Keep ‘Em In The Attic” that actually get you moving. The fourth song, “Way It Keeps Going” is another fine song, but “Navigator” is a bit of a throw-away, with slow guitars.
The almost punkish approach proves itself powerful enough on “People Like You” and the mentioned “Keep Em”. The rest of the songs are more of the same, so that the total of 35 minutes of music shouldn’t have lasted any longer. | |
It’s not bad, but a bit too predictable. The smoother parts of songs like “I Got Satan” and “Heroine” all stop after the same time; pick up a heavy part, with battering drums sounding as if they’re made to smash your ears, until the whole level drops again with another gentle part. Then, a heavy part, a smoother part, and the end of the song. This is frankly the only negative point of this release; the repetitive structure in the songs.
All musicians show they’re capable of playing their instruments, and a special compliment has to be given to the drummer, who proves himself really good on “Heroine” and one for the guitarist on “Way It Keeps Going”. Exactly what Britain needed. Now try to bring it to Europe. You’re welcome. (Eelco) |
