SCARECROW is the commercial electro pop version of Das Ich. Though you don`t hear it immediately, during ‘Endless’ and ‘Endless II’ the voice of MHScary sure got some resemblance. It’s also funny that the band is using English and Deutsch during ‘Endless’. Next song ‘Erde’ makes you check the booklet if the members of Das Ich aren’t participating on this album. And they are! Strangely enough not on this song (although Bruno Kramm mastered the entire album), but on ‘Erlkonig’ Stefan Kaufmann sings. On both songs you hear the typical strange song structures we are used to hearing from Das Ich. From this moment on the influences are obviously present, but it’s not that SCARECROW is a pitiful copycat.

As stated before, “Outcry” is easier to listen to. The band even got a ballad (the English sung, piano orientated ‘Meaningless’). ‘Up And Down’ is more like the electro pop we heard in both ‘Endless’ versions. This song could be described as a modern Depeche Mode. ‘O.F.L.S’ reminds of the dance full force that Neuroticfish is. ‘Captive’ is a duet between Doreen and MHScary (who sounds more and more like Depeche Mode). The song ‘Outcry’ in the end returns to the Das Ich mode we heard in the middle of this record. Maybe the best conclusion is that SCARECROW is the one and only band that can mix the feeling of Das Ich with Depeche Mode in their own solid way.
