SLEEPWALK got some similarities to Front Line Assembly. The distorted voice of Oliver Spring resembles a lot that of Bill Leeb and the music by Bruno Ruch is in the same tempo as FLA. SLEEPWALK are definitely searching for depth in their music instead of power like other darkelectro acts Hocico or Suicide Commando.
It makes it probably harder to dance to, but it makes it more interesting to listen to. Lyrically the band has got some interesting things to tell. It’s about the theme to live your life today (and try to enjoy it), personal insights and not those happy ones.
Have to admit that after the first six songs the CD starts to live more. All songs are good, but the only tension until then is a choir passing in one song. ‘Come With You’ is a strange, but also sweet, mixture between the high clear female voice of Franziska Kalb (of No Comment) with almost tribal beats and the sometimes screaming voice of Oliver. | |
Also ‘Wheel Of Time’ (lost faith mix) with voices of Olivier Moser keeps the band more out of the FLA connection, although this song is more upbeat – almost commercial- electro. ‘Paranoid Visions’ is also more upbeat and has some pretty samples of a screaming woman. ‘Subjection’ returns to the FLA influenced sound again and ‘The Last Mile’ shows that SLEEPWALK can create some danceable electro as well.
The Pzycho Bitch remix of ‘Wheel Of Time’ is more threatening than the earlier lost faith mix on this release and ends a record that gave us almost 63 minutes of electro pleasure. (Beautevil) |
