Twilight On Humanity is already the second full-length album of these New York power metal warriors. I must however admit that I had never heard of Zandelle before, which is a damn shame because these guys seriously know how to play some superb power metal. Not only do they sound epic and powerful but most important of all; they sound original and refreshing.
Zandelle plays in the traditional American way that is comparable to bands like Warlord, Liege Lord and Helstar with powerful multifaceted guitar riffs and a myriad of lead breaks. They play a type of metal that basically has been dead for years but with this album they are ready to pave the way for a revival of the scene.
Although there is no market for bands like Zandelle in the US, there is certainly a market for them here in Europe. Twilight On Humanity is an hour long album that shows how power metal should be played; no straightforward guitar riffs, no dull background keyboards but metal without compromises instead.
Founder George Tsalikis’ tremendous vocals add an extra dimension to the music and they sound truly sincere. | |
His voice has an original touch to it that for once doesn’t remind me of someone else. Add to that excellent driving guitar riffs that are on the one hand powerful and raw and on the other hand catchy and melodic and I just have to conclude that this is one of the best power metal albums I have heard this year. It is difficult to mention the highlights of Twilight On Humanity since basically all the songs are excellent. However the 12 minute long title track and the slow “A Hero’s Quest” maybe slightly outdo the other songs.
Zandelle is the second American power metal band (Spirit Web being the first) within a month that has absolutely managed to surprise me. It looks like the American scene is ready for a comeback, driven by the success of the European power metal bands. Whether this comeback will succeed is hard to predict but it is nevertheless certain that Zandelle is paving the way and I advice any self-respecting power metal fan to get this album. (Frank) |
