Yngwie J. Malmsteen, a man who doesn’t require any introduction, and his force are back with a new album and I have to admit that the maestro has finally managed to convince me. Although albums like "Eclipse", "Fire & Ice" and "The Seventh Sign" were chart successes, they nevertheless failed to reach the level of "Odyssey" and "Trilogy". Undeniably Yngwie’s musicianship had developed since those beginning days but it was the catchy song structuring combined with the playful guitar solo’s that made the aforementioned albums such classics. With "Attack" Yngwie proves that he still knows how to write excellent classical rock songs. The CD has an authentic eighties feeling and the tracks are very catchy indeed with an excellent balance between straightforward rock and melody. Yngwie’s solo’s are superb as always and add an extra dimension to the music.

This man is just an absolute guitar genius who refuses to give in!Doogie White (Rainbow) is responsible for the vocals and although he does an excellent job, he nevertheless fails to reach the level of Jeff Scott Soto, who has a wider range and a more natural voice. The whole album is truly as solid as a rock and a must for anyone who likes "Odyssey" and "Trilogy". Whether it is the fast “Rise Up”, the instrumental “Baroque & Roll” or the slow and touchy “Valley Of Kings”, it is all right to the mark. In short: "Attack" delivers almost 70 minutes of excellent, unparalleled, classical rock that finally reminds of Yngwie J. Malmsteen’s younger days! Best tracks of the album are “Rise Up”, “Attack!” and “Ship Of Fools”.
