Sven arrived at the bi-monthly REZ meeting for the first time (in his life) where he met the infamous Johan G. Apparently Johan G. found a Pietasters CD in his mailbox and our friendly metalhead didn’t know what to make of it… and so Turbo found it’s way into Sven’s meaty paws and here’s the result….
Sven’s first idea, formed by the few sentences on the back of the CD cover, differed a lot from the music he found on the CD. Although The Pietasters are known as a ska-punk band they don’t sound like any of the “more famous” ska-bands of today such as Voodoo Glow Skulls and Liberator. They’ve gone back to the roots of ska and reggae and have combined both with a lot of soul to create a sound Sven Svenson can only describe as 60’s feel good music. This is elevator music which elevates Sven to a higher level of elevation. | |
Three years after "Awesome Mix Tape #6" The Pietasters have released “Turbo”. And it’s good!! This CD will get you up when you’re down and down when you’re high. “Turbo” has got it all including the Bob Marley cover “Mellow Mood” and the instrumental “Step Right Up”. The latter being a “traditional” ska song and the first a reggae song the Pietasters have Pietasterfied. Sven can also advise all you drunken, obsessive, road-raged drivers to check out this CD, it could turn out to be a lot cheaper (not to mention more fun) than a psychiatrist.
Sven’s favourite songs are “Drunken Master”, a fore mentioned “Step Right Up” and “Malmo”. Even though this kind of music isn’t right up Sven’s alley, he sure enjoyed listening to “Turbo” and to grab the bull by the bollocks: just buy this bleeding CD!!
