Rating: 8.5/10

This fifth album already by JACK FROST is somewhere between the likes of Moonspell, The 69 Eyes and The Sisters Of Mercy. As the scene currently is divided on whether this is Gothic rock or not we’ll just call this album doom rock. Self Abusing Uglysex Ungod is dark, moody and thé recommendation for the upcoming fall. The clear voice of Phred Phinster is as gloomy as you can expect in music like this. The repeating heavy guitar riffs, the pounding drums and massive bass go on and on.

Songs like “Mother Mary Sleeps With Me”, “One Hundred Percent Pain”, “The Dance” and the other five songs on this record show that JACK FROST isn’t providing anything new. Self Abusing Uglysex Ungod however proves that you don’t have to invent anything new to create great music. It shows that JACK FROST is the Austrian counterpart of Moonspell and definitely released a better album than the 69 Eyes did with Paris Kills.
