A mere twelve minutes long the countrymen Elmer, Edgar and Joe Bob Tyfus gutter out the hulkiest grinding Deere metal I have ever heard. Their music is inspired by homicidal death metal, horror movies and John Deere tractors. ‘25” Kitchen Knife’ is their self-released debut album which contains short, simple and punchy songs. Edgar, Elmer and Joe Bob all contribute to each song with their extremely low gutter vocals. In one track (‘Howdy Folks’) they even introduce themselves so you know exactly who is singing what. The lyrics are about everything a healthy farmer thinks about; tractors, killing people, feces and house wives. Some of the lyrics are in Dutch (‘Kontsnor’ and ‘John Deere 9600’) but most of them are in English. The music of the Tyfus brothers is very straight forward. It`s in-your-face grinding death with down-tuned guitars, distorted bass and a drum computer blasting away. Songs can be midtempo one while others burst into hellish speed that makes the drum computer sound like a John Deere tractor. Some songs have an intro from a cult movie or, like the first and the last song, an intro of a completely different band. The music itself resembles that of bands like Devourment and even more that of Mortician.

It`s not only straight-forward but also it`s a lot less technical. The length of the songs resembles that of their main influences as well. The redneck-element only adds to the bluntness. The cover depicts what the title track ‘25” Kitchen Knife’ is all about. At the inside of the booklet the lyrics are revealed which are worth reading. Some lyrics are quite unique for the genre. As for the production I can be very short: It is just as simple and effective as the music itself. Intros are Lo-Fi and the guitars have an ugly high digital crisp. Everything is put up front so there is no escape. The drum tracks are remorseless and do not have any dynamics what so ever. But hey, who needs dynamics anyway? Kringspiertyfus can be easily compared to Mortician but due to their unique context (not many Death Metal bands regard themselves as farmers) ‘25” Kitchen Knife’ feels quite different. This disc is not for people who are dying for some high quality extremely technical Death Metal. If you can handle Utter Lompness (Bluntness) such as Mortician and Cock And Ball Torture this disc is a nice asset to a sick collection. Too bad it does not contain a few more songs…
