Warning: Mezzerschmitt is provocative, extreme but NON political!!! So it says on the back of the promo I received, it’s also in the bio and on the website.
If you name your band after the scourge of the European skies during World War 2, if you call your cd Weltherrschaft and if you use stage names like Hauptman Hammer (Hellhammer from Mayhem), Herr Schmitt (Blasphemer from Mayhem) and Oberleutnant LS you’re asking to be judged as Nazi’s.
But if you put a declaration on your CD you’re non political everything is alright? Then everybody knows you’re not Nazi? Okay, but where’s the provocative part then?
If you want to be provocative you shouldn’t put an explanation on the cover saying you don’t mean all this stuff.
But enough about that, let’s listen to the music. It should be extreme, but it isn’t. | |
They looked at Rammstein and probably thought “we can do that, and make some money too”. I mean, repetitive marching rhythms, simple riffs and monotone lyrics sung in German are the trademarks of Der Mannschaft from Germany. Mezzerschmitts approach is a bit more metallic than Rammstein but it never really blasts the earwax out of your ears. Does that mean this is a bad CD? No, not exactly, it means that this is a trend following and not a trendsetting release, and there is nothing wrong with that, but I have the feeling they are playing it safe with this combination of Mayhem and Rammstein. It’s just that if I want to listen to Rammstein, I’ll go buy one of their CDs and if I want to hear something more extreme than that I’ll put up a black or death metal CD. (Roy) |
