Gorelord is the ultimate horror-fantasy of Norwegian Frediablo (Necrophagia, Wurdulak, Soul Forsaken, Grimfist). The debut album “Force Fed On Human Flesh” was released back in 2001, two years after Gorelord was founded. Gorelord plays death metal with a touch of black metal. This is mainly due to the vocals that remind me of bands like Mayhem and Burzum from time to time. The music is more death than black because of the bass-drum and the guitar-sound. Some riffs however are slightly blackened. The album contains 9 tracks and 2 bonus demo tracks. The demo tracks sound like they were filtered on purpose. This day and age demo tracks hardly ever sound like that. The tracks are not even mastered so they sound much softer. The original tracks have a much better (guitar-orientated) production. The programmed drums are not too bad except for the cymbals, which sound very monotone and start to irritate if you pay too much attention. The opening track “The Stench Of Flesh Decomposing” starts off with a heavily filtered riff to blast in your face right after. It sets the pace and the atmosphere for the rest of the album. Except maybe for the instrumental song “Outback” in the midst of the battle. It could be I am missing out on the context; maybe it refers to a cult horror movie, but personally I think this happy tune seems a bit awkward on this album.

Another strange phenomenon I witnessed on the track “Cumfucked Face Of Death”. The song feels like it is just not finished. Just when a new riff starts the song is faded out. Why didn’t Frediablo write an ending to this song? The last song “I Am Master Here” reminded me of the latest Callenish Circle album “Flesh_Power_Dominion” because the same sound sample, apparently from some cult Horror movie, is used. Do not get me wrong; the track itself does not resemble Callenish Circle what so ever. The lyrics are not included in the booklet. What is more, they are even banned in the USA, Australia and Germany. These countries found them to be too shocking for their youngsters. You can read the lyrics on the website though ( www.horrorseek.com.gorelord/ ). “Zombie Suicide Part:666” is not your average brutal death metal release even though lyrics about horror movies are not that unique, the music is not sickening fast and there are little deep guttural vocals or grunts to be found on the album. Also some of the production choices are quite unusual (sweep filters). If that makes the album outstanding enough to be noticed is yet another question.
