Wicked Is My Game is already the third album of this Swedish thrash metal outfit. Thrash metal nowadays usually means Gothenburg death thrash ‘a la’ Dark Tranquillity or In Flames but these gentlemen seem to part with that tradition and have opted for a more modern approach. Although, undeniably, Gothenburg influences are still present.
Musically the band reminds mostly of fellow countrymen The Haunted and their modern in-your-face thrash metal with its roots firmly planted in the soil that is At The Gates. Excellent aggressive guitar riffs, mean screaming vocals and bountiful lead breaks are the keywords of this album. | |
On this energetic album Raise Hell smashes and pounds the full 45 minutes in a very impressive manner.
It is very difficult to mention a few highlights on this album since all the songs are of a very high level; compact, straight in your face, yet technical and diverse. Raise Hell has delivered a very convincing thrash album and they prove that the scene still isn’t dead. Although they never manage to achieve the level of The Haunted’s debut album, it is nevertheless an album that any The Haunting fan will enjoy.
