Time Requiem is a new progressive neo classical metal band from Sweden. The band is formed around Majestic lead singer Richard Andersson. This album is recorded and produced by Jonas Goldberg (known from the Flower Kings) in his own Reingold Studios and he did a great job. The sound on Time Requiem is crystal clear.
When listening to this album there is one band that immediately comes to mind, Dream Theater. This is mainly because of the guitar parts on the several tracks which sound a lot like John Petrucci. Comparing the band to Dream Theater, it has to be noted that the drums on this self titled debut album lack power and variation. | |
The classical influences are integrated in a subtle way and are definitely not overdone. Slower parts, usually beautiful vocal passages accompanied by piano, are strongly influenced by seventies and eighties sympho bands like Asia and Kansas. Although the music on the self titled debut album starts out quit promising and individual songs contain much variation, towards the end of the album the band seems to be out of new ideas and starts to repeat itself. Nevertheless this is an album which will appeal to many melodic metal fans.
