Even after three albums, I must honestly say I’m not familiar with the previous work of Tenebre. Electric Hellfire Kiss is already their fourth full-length release. The band appears to have left their roots, and have claimed their place in the more popular gothic genre. Not that Tenebre is the new Within Temptation. No, they are not. Tenebre features influences from modern gothic bands, but also from oldies like Paradise Lost, Danzig and even some Iron Maiden.
Two guitarists and the roaring voice of new singer Victor create a dark atmosphere surrounding these ten songs and the band shows how to mix these dark influences with a catchy approach to metal. | |
Unfortunately, the 45 minutes of this album aren’t as good as I had hoped for after listening to the first five songs. Especially the last half of the album is quite boring, actually. "She Darks The Sun" and "At The Mountain" should have been replaced by more songs like "Alienation", "Nocturnal Rhapsody" and the album’s first single "Descend From Heaven" because these songs show the true strength of this band.
