Difficult one, this. Not the fact that Swarm consists of three former members of Death Angel (as seen at the Dynamo Open Air Festival only this summer) and therefore has some obvious influences. But the fact that the album can not be categorized so easily. There is an amazing amount of variety here. Of course, it is some sort of metal, but just when you think you can put your finger on it, they take you by surprise the very next song.

Oh, before I forget, I have no connection to Death Angel whatsoever, so don’t expect me to compare, because I won’t. You’ll just have to listen to this album I guess.

Now then. What does it sound like? Hmm... yes. The song I’m listening to now (number 10, “My Eyes Have Seen You”) sounds like a cross between Blind Melon, the Doors and Nirvana. Does that make sense? Compare that to the first song, “Heaven’s Cage”, which starts off as a Mucky Pup-kinda song but then blasts off to a typical metal tune, and everything in between sounds like.

.. well, like everything in between, actually. From power metal to Stoner. As they put it, their influences range from AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Queen, Bob Marley to Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the list goes on and on.

However, the final result is not total chaos. Somehow the songs are well balanced. Right the minute a scene is set, they stick to it for the rest of that song and only change it when the next song is coming up, leaving each song as a complete item. Very nice. Oh yes, there’s quite a bit of Rage Against The Machine in there, too. See... it just happened again, just when you think you recognize something, you hear something else. I will try to keep this review understandable, so I will not say anything about the sound anymore, just that Swarm is a nice, not too heavy and leaning toward rock, metal band. Right? Oh whatever, just check it out.
