Death metal as death metal is supposed to be. Rolling bass drums, guitar riffs sharp as a knife and a new vocalist who seems to be influenced by Peter from Vader. I am talking about “the Will to Kill”, the new Malevolent Creation release after “Envenomed” in 2000. On “the Will to Kill” features the first appearance of new vocalist Kyle Simmons (also Hate Plow, Phil and Rob’s other project band) who has done a great job and even has, in my opinion, a grunt which is better suitable for Malevolent`s music. On the whole the songs on “the Will to Kill” are typical Malevolent Creation songs. The blast beats and the typical guitar riffs are also present this time and the production (done by Jean Marie Dagenais, also guitarist in Kataklysm) is very heavy, which gives this release some extra power. | |
This probably also is one of their most varied recording so far. More than once Malevolent shift back several gears for a nice mid-tempo piece like in “Rebirth of Terror”, which seems heavily influenced by Six Feet Under. Or what to think of the guest appearance of James Murphy, who also features on this release by playing some guest solos. No, all in all this is a severe death metal grenade that every extreme death metal fan should have in his collection. After “The Ten Commandments” and “Stillborn” I guess this would be my favorite Malevolent release. (Teun) |
