Most famous for remixing such acts as :wumpscut:, Das Ich and Front 242, the duo Aghast View already proven to be one of the leading acts in the current electro-scene. With influences from bands as Covenant and Frontline Assembly, their third album "Phaseknox" has become one of the better releases in its genre of this year.
Take the song "Deviance" for example; it kicks off with a sort of monotone trance-beat, then decides to add some Frontline Assembly, building up a certain pressure that shows some resemble to a band like Covenant or Assemblage 23. And the whole thing is packed with a cold feeling that begs for a loud volume!
All of the songs on this album are build around this sort of structure; a lot of dance, electro and trance, mixed with a varying amount of both classic industrial as well as plain digital force. A song like "Fieldlights" for example, features hard beats, sounds that appear to be taking directly from an old Atari-computer and manage to combine these two far ends so extremely danceable that it`s hard to imagine this duo hasn`t been given as much credit as their examples. | |
It`s quite unbelievable that this sort of music isn`t played as often at parties, since the nearly trance-like beats offer such a diversity that a random DJ will have his club shaking on it`s fundament. And, it might be a good idea to hand "Reason Hidden" to some trance-clubs, since the same offering has been given a really harsh approach, that would be perfect at a festival like Dance Valley.
The power of this album is exactly loud enough to leave your mouth open after the last notes of "Hollowcore" fade away and make you realize it`s the first time a Brazilian band has offered such an extreme impact in a musical style. Now, if only they have gave it a better layout... (Eelco) |
