Well, if you haven’t heard of the Hives by now, you must have been living under a rock of some sort. In the UK it’s clear that people have discovered The Hives, as the guys are selling out shows all over the British isles. Because of this, the compilation CD Your New Favourite Band was released in Britain especially to give those Limeys a taste of this Swedish rock ‘n roll machine. Burning Heart now makes the album available to all of us living outside the UK (and let’s face it, many of us do). What can you expect from this compilation? For starters: nothing new. Of course the hits “Main Offender” and “Hate To Say I Told You So” are on the CD. In fact, most tracks were previously released on the albums Veni Vidi Vicious and Barely Legal, while the remainder was taken from various singles.

Rounding up this collection of hits are four video’s in mpeg-format. In short, if you have the regular albums in your possession, this CD won’t have a lot of new stuff to offer. If you’re only just now discovering the band, however, the album is well worth checking out. The Hives have that pop knack in their sound that makes their music appealing not just to your average garage-rocker, but to a more mainstream type of audience as well. Add a slightly cocky attitude (just look at the album title) and a dose of coolness, and you’ve got yourself a new group of idols right here.
