This album is just like Darzamat’s debut album In The Flames Of The Black Art a re-release; this time of their original second CD from 1999. Yet again it has been re-mastered and features one extra song; a remix of “Ancient Philosophy”. The sound on this CD is slightly better however, which is most likely due to the better quality of the original recording.
Darzamat clearly sounds more mature and the music has less black metal elements in general. The keyboards and the vocals have gotten more attention and Flauros uses his clean vocals a whole lot more than before. I find this album slightly less interesting than their debut however; but the band has yet again delivered a convincing piece of work that is full of atmosphere, variation and originality. | |
One enormous drawback of this album is its extremely short length; only 5 songs and a remix that last for little over half an hour. The absolute highlight of this album is the superb third song “From The Earth To The Stars”. Excellent symphonic black metal that reminds slightly of a band like Dornenreich and this song alone makes the album worth listening to!
In The Opium Of Black Veil (speaking of a confusing title) certainly rises above the average level of the melodic black metal scene but fails to leave the same impression as Darzamat’s debut. Nevertheless a very decent album with, yet again, wonderful new cover artwork done by G-r-a-a-l.
