Cold Skin Obsession is the second album of this Polish black/death metal outfit. Truth be told, the foundations of the music are mostly death metal with minor black influences; and the band reminds at times of Lux Occulta during their My Guardian Anger days and Behemoth’s newer work. Modern death metal with keyboards and symphonic passages.
While the aforementioned bands have been around for a bit short of a decade and thus have lost their naive musical approach, Thy Disease bursts with youthful freshness and spontaneity. Certainly the music is not as mature and as developed but the fresh and passionate spirit that lies behind it makes well up for this. Listen for instance to the aggressive "Blade Intimacy" or the twisted Lux Occulta-like "Nihilistic Tranquillity".
Strangely enough, the band covered a Madonna song on their debut album; and this time they have chosen to cover a piece of The Last Of The Mohicans soundtrack. | |
It is a song that fits the album however; and a chance to catch your breath from the violent onslaught of the other songs. But that is not the only cover. No, the album ends in style, an ode to the godfathers of the scene, Death. The song in question is "Without Judgement" from the album Symbolic and although the band might not reach the level of Death, for who can level the brilliance of Chuck Chuldiner (may he rest in peace), they certainly do a decent job.
After listening to Cold Skin Obsession one can only conclude that Thy Disease has delivered an excellent album; another band that proves that the Polish metal scene is alive and kicking. I can highly recommend this album to anyone who likes Lux Occulta`s My Guardian Anger album. Exit Luc Occulta, enter Thy Disease.
