The big question was whether MOONLIGHT would still be able to grow musically. After impressive albums like “Koncert W Trójce” and “Yaishi” you wondered if it could get any better. The band herself give the only right answer. “Candra” shows that MOONLIGHT have grown in many aspects. It’s not that the band play better or that Maja Konarska sings better, that would be mission impossible. They established, however, their growth through writing different music. First song ‘Ronaa’ sounds very modern and eclectic. After that songs like ‘Luna II’ and ‘Meren-Re’ take a giant step back in pace, but even then MOONLIGHT sound like a happy fish in water. ‘Body Dialogue’ makes clear that the band have been listening to Tool. The combination between progressive, dark music and the voice of Maja works wonderfully well. | |
The Polish sung ‘To See Yourself’ is a ballad in which the voice of Maja is the leading factor. She’s only sometimes supported by keyboard, but it keeps the tension going for about four and a half minutes. Absolute focus point of this record is the 13 minutes of ‘Asuu’. This is the second song that seems to be influenced by the likes of Tool. Still, this song also proves that MOONLIGHT are professional musicians who are creating a similar sound, but never copy it in any way. ‘Luna’ and ‘Goodnight’ end a record that’s way too short. Both songs prove, once again, that the band sounds darker, more intense and definitely more complete. Therefore the answer to the question in the beginning of this review is a definite YES!!!
