To give the music of the early FADING COLOURS any perspective you could compare it to the likes of The Cure and the Sisters Of Mercy, but with a female singer. It means that the band play sometimes almost rock anthems and at other points is more wave orientated. The dark emasculate female voice of De Coy needs some time to grow accustomed to, but then the world of FADING COLOUR opens up. Catchy rock/wave songs that could appeal to a lot of people. Listen to songs like ‘Black Horse’ and ‘Sister Of The Night’ (and see them on the video on this CD) and you know why this band are known outside the borders of Poland. Have to admit that the whole album sounds pretty professional and I’m sorry the new released CD’s are in the hands of Rockezine’s Eelco. | |
Still, “The Beginning 89 – 93” shows that FADING COLOURS had a good start. It’s nice to hear the Polish sung first song of FADING COLOURS, but strangely enough De Coy is better when she sings in English. The fact that the band had two guitar players, a drummer and a keyboard proves that they were more guitar orientated than we heard during the last edition of The Castle Party. This is a great album for people who haven’t heard anything from this band.
It’s only strange that it starts off with seven minutes of silence…
