Izegrim was formed out of the remains of Solstice, a doom/death metal band, in 1996; and since then had some small releases and some line-up changes. But now it is time for their first full-length album, called ‘Guidelines For Genocide’. Izegrim defines its own music as Dutch Terror Thrash. I don’t know what to think of that, but thrash sure is a fine way to describe this band.
The nine songs represented on this album are quite nice to listen to, but the vocals of Krisz disturb me. Don’t get me wrong; this has nothing to do with the fact that the screams/grunts are done by a woman. There are some very good female vocalists in the world of extreme metal, like Rachel, who is now a part of Sinister, or Angela, who does her job in Arch Enemy, both vocalists of the highest art. | |
But this is not the case with Krisz, her vocals are not as good and are detrimental to the rest of the music.
There are some guest appearances that are worth naming. Arydon (Goddess Of Desire and former member of Izegrim) takes the lead guitars in ‘Crack Whore’. The guitar solos on the whole album are very well by the way, although there are not many.
Another guest is Wannes Gubbels (Pentacle/Asphyx). His vocals in ‘Under The Banners Of Hatred’ are good, and when he sings together with Krisz it sounds quite well.
Despite the fact that some parts of this album are interesting and that there are some really nice guitar-riffs, I think that I won’t listen a lot to this band in the future.
