I had heard of this band before, but this was my first encounter with their music. An encounter I shall not easily forget.
This is one of the few bands that succeed in mixing death metal with spherical parts. I hear brute death metal pounding against my eardrums and one moment later the classical orchestrations and dark atmospheres are predominant.
Despite the fact that I think there should be some more fast and brute pieces, I really like this mix of aggression, speed, melody, brutality and dark spheres.
Many songs have parts that remind me of the Swedish death metal scene, regardless of this being a Greek band.
I really like it when a band has its own sound and with Septic Flesh this definitely is the case. | |
But obstinacy is not their only strong point. They also have great compositions, guitarists and varying vocals.
The only negative aspect of this album is that there are way too many intros. Almost every song begins with an intro. If you look at each song separately this is not disturbing, but when you hear a complete album it is too much. But my advice is just to ignore this, because the songs still are great.
Be prepared for this piece of extreme art fuelled with visions from your worst nightmares. You have been warned…
