It’s been three years since Boysetsfire released their masterpiece ‘After The Eulogy’; and to span the gap between that album and the new album that will come out April 1st 2003, the band has put out an EP to give the world a wake-up call. The EP features three new studio-tracks and three songs recorded live somewhere in New Jersey. The new stuff starts off quite vicious, but after 30 seconds the clean, melodic vocals kick in and immediately remind me of the old stuff. The music is very much in the same vein as ‘After The Eulogy’, but since that is one of my all-time favourites, the new stuff kicks major ass as well. The songs have been worked out very well, the guys in the band are great musicians and Nathan is just an awesome singer. Production is excellent; the lyrics are well done and deal with subjects like politics and religion.

The live-songs featured here are ‘After The Eulogy’ and ‘Rookie’ (both crowd pleasers from the last album) and ‘Handful Of Redemption’, a new song. The new song is almost a ballad and a bit more poppy than what you can usually expect from BSF, but still very good. The other two songs are classics, so there’s no need to discuss them. Again, sound quality is great and the band plays tight and driven. Vocals are as good as on the album and the crowd does their best to help out with backup vocals. Both the new songs and the live songs thrive with energy and emotion, and even though this release is a bit short, the thought of the album coming out next year has me thrilled already. Boysetsfire proves that they’re still one of the coolest bands around and I hereby urge everyone to rush downtown to pick up this CD! ‘Nuff said.
