The horror clowns of Insane Clown Posse have released their sixth and final joker card; The Wraith: Shangri-La. After this, sorry for the Juggalos (their fans), they will no longer be Insane Clown Posse.
The music, like the clowns themselves, has changed. As can be heard in the single “Juggalo Homies”, the music is a bit more cheerful, and the make up of the guys has also changed; it is a bit more colourful. The merry music might make it seem like the boys have lightened up, but do not be deceived by this. Both the lyrics and the make up still have black rims... the lyrics are as hard, cruel and story like as ever. “Something had woke me a thump on my roof, it was followed by crashing, more thumping ensued / I jumped out of my bed thinking I’d been invaded, heard smashing, more pounding, the sound escalated / Looked out of my window, blood dripped down the glass, I see bodies lay twisted and mangled on grass” (“Hell’s Forecast”). | |
Like I said, the music has changed a lot, but much of the ‘old’ ICP can be heard in the tunes and the settings of the stories. For example, the second song re-introduces you to the Dark Carnival (a place much used in ICP lyrics, which was said to have come to front man Violent J in a dream!) and the nonsense conversations that can be heard in between the songs.
However, I think this CD is more accessible, both for the ‘old’ fans and the ‘new’ fans.
I rate it a 7.
